On behalf of the Society I wish you a warm welcome to our web site.
Faced with the dilemma of having to follow two huge, spectacular Broadway shows, Anything Goes and 42nd Street, both of which were artistically very successful but struggled at the box office, the Society’s Committee, using the words of Monty (Python that is) decided it was time for ‘something completely different!’
After much deliberation they chose The Full Monty as our production for 2010. We were very pleased to be able to put the show before you here in Newark.
The musical, based upon the British film starring Robert Carlyle, became a major musical success on Broadway and in London.
It received very favourable reviews and since it was released for the amateur stage has played to packed audiences throughout the country.
Our Production team of Musical Director, Hugh Casterton and Director, Lisa Lee, ably assisted by our rehearsal pianist, Bella Conn, have worked tirelessly to produce this commercially and artistically successful production.
Monty was not an easy show to rehearse. There are no big chorus numbers; the majority of the songs are not straight forward and are different from anything we have done previously.
I would like to thank the Production team and the cast for their hard work and dedication to this show. Our audience saw on stage many familiar faces and also some new ones who joined us for the first time. I’m sure that you will be seeing much more of them!
In the words of a prominent national theatre critic, this was ‘a stripping yarn which shows its class’. So prepare to enjoy yourself as you watch a theatrical treat – Many thanks for your continued support.
